SYM-1 (6502) SYM-1 (6502) MSC-ICO (Z80) MSC-ICO (Z80)

The SYM-1 contains a 1MHz 6502 microprocessor manufactured by Synertek in approximately 1980. It was a contemporary of the VIM-1 and Apple-1. This sample contains a 32K RAM expansion card with some extra S6522 VIA (parallel interface adaptor) chips upon which an eprom programmer was developed i.e. this system was self developing. Not present is an 8K byte "visible memory" which provided bit level graphics.

The MSC-ICO is a typical Z80 single board PC from the mid-1980s. This sample had 128K of RAM which allowed user programs to run in approximately 60K of RAM and the remainder was used to hold the operating system and buffer floppy disk transfers.

The SYM-1 was built into an aluminium card cage - a real pain. The MSC-ICO was built into a see-through perspex cover thereby allowing a final life as a "coffee table ornament".
